This week was big for the wrestling community as we witnessed the rare competition of TV shows as WWE and AEW put on stacked cards this past Tuesday night.

Due to Major League Baseball playoffs, the usual Tuesday/Wednesday night shows of NXT and AEW Collision were forced to air the same night of the week in the same time slot.

Both WWE and AEW promised no commercial breaks for both shows in the first half hour and also loaded each show to the brim with major stars of the last decade.

On AEW’s side, there were several championship matches plus the debut match of recent transplant Adam Copeland against Luchasaurus! WWE sported a main event with two special guests: John Cena and Paul Heyman who would stand in the opposing corners of Carmleo Hayes and Bron Breakker.

Ultimately, it was WWE that would win the rating battle. NXT brought int nearly 300,000 more views on the tally that AEW was able to produce.

Eric Bischoff, former president of WCW, said on his podcast Strictly Business, “I think that it shows there is a lot of crossover with the AEW audience. Clearly, they attract fans who also like WWE, and if forced to choose, they’re choosing to watch WWE.”

WWE has made no official statement regarding the so-called “Tuesday night war” that occurred, but Tony Khan of AEW went to his Twitter/X page to celebrate bringing the competition to WWE in such a way that less than one million fans tuned in to see John Cena on NXT.
