BARBIE Close to Taking #1
As predicted by experts, BARBIE the movie will soon surpass The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the highest-grossing film of the year. The Margot Robbie-led film has taken in $1.3 billion worldwide so far.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie has ended its run in the majority of local theaters clearing the field for BARBIE to take over. However, with the Warner Bros. runaway hit coming to streaming platforms as early as September 5, 2023, there might not be much in the tank after taking Mario’s top spot.
Frozen II holds the next record BARBIE would stand up against as that film raked in more than $1.4 billion during its run.
PRISCILLA PRESLEY SPEAKS ON NEW MOVIE
Priscilla will be front and center of promoting a new biopic heading to theaters October 27, 2023.
The Sofia Coppola directed picture also stars Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy, Pacific Rim: Uprising) as the titular business mogul. Playing her infamous Grammy winner ex-husband is Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) as Elvis Presley.
For 60 years Priscilla bore the brunt of the wild speculation of the public while on the arm of the most charismatic man in America.
Priscilla and Sofia became somewhat kindred spirits growing up surrounded by the limelight of an acclaimed celebrity. While other depictions of Priscilla have been produced over the years, this is the first and only from her point of view.
Priscilla is based on her autobiography Elvis and Me, published in 1985.
AEW Breaks a Worldwide Attendance Record
81,035 wrestling fans packed inside Wembley Stadium in London this past Sunday for AEW’s special event, All-In, breaking the Worldwide attendance record set for a crowd at a live professional wrestling event.
This event surpassed the previous record held by WWE at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for WWE WrestleMania 32. Roman Reigns battled Triple H for the WWE Championship in the main event at the 2016 showcase.
Not ready to stop here, Tony Khan and AEW announced they would be returning to Wembley next year and are looking to top the record they set with the hopes that up to 90 thousand wrestling fans would be in attendance.
The current world record for a paid ticketed event is 220,000 attendees for the Italian singer Vasco in Modena Italy for Vasco’s Modena Park concert.
Rod Stewart holds the record currently for the largest audience ever at 3.5 million music fans lined Copacabana Beach to watch the maestro at his best.
AMC and Warner Bros. Reach Streaming Deal
A select number of AMC series will land on HBO’s streaming service MAX coming very soon, according to reps from both networks.
Previous deals with Netflix and Hulu are still in place, as this is considered to be a first of its kind “Programming Pop Up”; similar to pop up events and stores found in cities all across the United States.
Pop Ups are a way for businesses, studios, designers, and other creatives to showcase the best of their talents during a temporary stay in a locale that usually doesn’t offer the wares, styles, or art on display.
AMC promises to curate the very best of their library to be shown on MAX between September 1 and October 31. Titles will include Fear the Walking Dead, Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire, Killing Eve, and Ride with Norman Reedus amongst others.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav suggests that bundling streaming options together is the future of the industry. He believes that with agreements between the differing streaming platforms sharing the best shows offered across various services, “it would probably reduce churn and provide a meaningful consumer experience.”
