Ron Cephas Jones, the Emmy-winning This is Us star passed away at the age of 66.

According to a statement released to People on Saturday, the Emmy-winning actor died due to a long-standing pulmonary issue.

In 2021, Jones spoke on his illness with the New York Times, stating he was battling a “chronic obstructive pulmonary disease” and had received a double lung transplant the prior year.

After a health scare on the set of This is Us in 2022, Jones said “My whole life has been the stage, the idea of not performing again seemed worse to me than death.” 

Ron Cephas Jones got his wish to continue performing. From 2021-2023 he co-starred alongside Octavia Spencer on the AppleTV+ drama Truth be Told as Scoville, which concluded its run with the third season. 

According to IMDB, Jones has one final project to be released. Coming soon Jones stars in the Disney+ show Genius: MLK/X, the fourth installment for the streaming anthology. Jones plays the leader of the Nation of Islam Elijah Muhammad in the landmark series.

Jones is survived by his daughter and fellow actor Jasmine Cephas Jones. Ron and Jasmine made history by becoming the first father and daughter duo to win Emmy awards on the same night in 2020.
